Presentation transcript:

October 2012 Updates: Term 4 starts Hahgoot was very excited to participate in the Year 6 fun day, and even got her face painted.

Hahgoot’s homework (which I give her) has been a great success. Her teacher sent her to get a special award from the principal for her photography project. She did another project, about change, where she took photos of a plant each day to observe changes over a week.

Following a visit to a photography exhibition at the Penrith regional Gallery, Hahgoot did a series of photographs of everyday objects from an unusual angle in extreme close-up and wrote what they reminded her, like landscape, walls or a monster’s mouth (left).

Another successful project was about finding types of lines in nature: a grid (left), diagonal, thick and thin together, straight and curvy lines.

In English Hahgoot worked hard on reading “The Secret Garden”, which was a big challenge, and the Australian Girl series which she likes.

In Hebrew Hahgoot enjoyed a workbook about understanding poetry, that used to be my brother’s when he was in Year 3 (top left). She also started reading books in level 7 (here she is reading a story by Pushkin, in rhymes). Hahgoot enjoyed reading “Ella Karri, the girls from Lapland”, which was my favourite book when I was in Year 3.

Hahgoot also enjoyed reading the chapter book “Allergy” by Yehonatan Gefen, that my dad sent her (left) In the Hebrew workbooks I made for her she mastered the activities for easy access to the dictionary easily.

Hahgoot enjoyed worksheets about the difference between “Al” (on) and “Al” (don’t) in Hebrew, and I even found a poem on this topic! Hahgoot commented that doing the worksheets really improved her spelling afterwards.

Hahgoot kept working enthusiastically on her “idioms project”

To practice her Hebrew skills, we also played board and card games

At school she has been working on a maths book for year 3 that I gave her teacher (top right). At home she worked hard on multiplication and maths quizzes. Hahgoot works equally well in maths both is Hebrew and in English

Hahgoot enjoyed a new exciting board game, that has a board and cubes that glow in the dark! This really forces you to do maths in your head... I got Barak to play with her, as the maths was getting a bit much for me to handle...

Other maths related games that Hahgoot enjoyed

At the Art Box class Hahgoot enjoyed the new tutor, Amanda, and her interesting ideas for painting tasks.

Hahgoot had a great time with the BJE: Top left: solving a crosswords puzzle about the story of Adam and Eve Top right: learning about Jewish symbols Bottom: making a Talit

Her favourite activity was making a Simchat Torah flag, with a pop-out window!

We started preparing for the flight to Israel in December: Hahgoot read with me the great book “Flying to see Janet”, that details the process of taking a flight and is geared towards kids that have sensory problems. In our next presentation: More of Hahgoot’s News
