Photoshop – Selby High School Adjusting Colour – Andy Warhol Style

Photoshop – Selby High School Pop Art Pop Art began in the 1950s, but became very popular in the 1960s. It started in the United Kingdom, but became a true art movement in New York City with artists like Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns. Pop Art uses images and icons that are popular in the modern world. This includes famous celebrities like movie stars and rock stars, commercial items like soup cans and soft drinks, comic books, and any other items that are popular in the commercial world. There are a number of ways that artists use these items to create art such as repeating the item over and over again, changing the colour or texture of the item, and putting different items together to make a picture.

Photoshop – Selby High School

Lesson Objectives To understand how to adjust colour in Photoshop To understand how to use layers to make an image All students will duplicate the image once and edit Most students will duplicate the image 4 times to make a montage Some students will independently attempt a Banksy style image.

Photoshop – Selby High School Colour and layers– How confident are you? I have never used this tool/skill before I know what this tool/skill is and can give it a go I know this tool/skill but need help from my teacher/ friend to get it right. I know this tool/skill but still make a few mistakes that I can fix by myself I feel confident using this tool/skill and have few problems I know this tool/skill very well and could explain it to others Complete your Levels Diary: 1.1, 1.2, 2.2, 2.4, 4.4 We are going to take a photo and cut it out of the background. We will then edit it so that the background is a different colour to that of the photograph, to create a pop art image. Could you do this?

Photoshop – Selby High School Task 1: Find an image of a person on Google Rules The image must be of a persons head (and shoulders) The image must have a plain coloured background.

Photoshop – Selby High School Task 2: Removing any background. Open a new A4 file in Photoshop. Ensure that you create a transparent background.

Photoshop – Selby High School Insert a new layer. Add your image to the new layer

Photoshop – Selby High School Removing the background. You need to select the background using the magic wand tool You may need to use the tolerance setting at the top to alter how much the magic wand pics up. The smaller the number the more precise it will be.

Photoshop – Selby High School You should now have your image on a transparent background

Photoshop – Selby High School Task 3: Making it black and white Turn the image black and white: image>adjustments>black & white. A pop up box will appear, click OK.

Photoshop – Selby High School Task 4: Adding a coloured background Create a new layer Use the rectangle marquee tool to create a square around your image. Fill it using the paint bucket tool. You will need to drag your layer to the bottom to ensure it goes behind your image

Photoshop – Selby High School Task 5: Making the image look cartoon-ey Filter>Convert to smart filters – this ensures that the filter can be edited afterwards Go to FILTERS>ARTISTIC>CUTOUT. A pop up will appear if you want to alter any settings.

Photoshop – Selby High School Task 6: Adding a coloured filter 1.Create a new layer. It must go between the background and the black and white image 2.While still selecting your new layer HOLD DOWN CTRL and click on the black and white image in the layers panel. You will notice dancing ants surround your image.

Photoshop – Selby High School 4. Fill the dancing ants using the paint bucket tool. Make sure you use a bright colour! When you fill it you’ll notice it wont change on screen – but it will change in your layers panel

Photoshop – Selby High School 5. To get the black and white image to blend into the new colour click on the layer in the layers panel. 6. At the top where it says “Normal”, change this to say “Linear Light”

Photoshop – Selby High School Ta-DA!

Photoshop – Selby High School Your challenge: Edit your image a further 3 times to create a collage like the one below.

Photoshop – Selby High School Colour and layers– How do you feel now? I have never used this tool/skill before I know what this tool/skill is and can give it a go I know this tool/skill but need help from my teacher/ friend to get it right. I know this tool/skill but still make a few mistakes that I can fix by myself I feel confident using this tool/skill and have few problems I know this tool/skill very well and could explain it to others Complete your Levels Diary: 1.1, 1.2, 2.2, 2.4, 4.4 Cutouts, Colour fill Using filters Manipulating and editing layers
