2 EXTENSION ACTIVITY DIGITAL MANIPULATION
Medium: Photoshop computer graphics program Description: Using Andy Warhol’s Pop Art style you are to digitally manipulate a photograph of yourself using Photoshop Elements. Each of the four images should represent a different colour scheme. Digital Art: An electronically processed image composed of bits and bytes, usually coming from use of a computer.

3 POP ART An art movement and style that had its origins in England in the 1950s and made its way to the United States during the 1960s. Pop artists have focused attention upon familiar images of the popular culture such as billboards, comic strips, magazine advertisements, and supermarket products. Roy Lichtenstein Wham! 4 ANDY WARHOL Andy Warhol was a legend in his lifetime. He received his bachelor of fine arts and moved to New York City to become a commercial artist. He began to work for Harpers Bazaar and Vogue magazines. He began working on a process called silkscreening to create artworks with a bold graphic style. As he entered into the New York culture scene he began painting celebrity portraits and images of popular culture.

5 Warhol’s Portraits Warhol portrayed famous people like Marilyn Monroe because they were typical icons of the "glamorous” and “famous. Every female portrait he completed was in the same format which included emphasis on lipstick, eye shadow and frozen camera smile. He wanted to portray celebrities as comtemporary sex symbols, packaged for the public as a consumer items. Mick Jagger portrait Elvis portrait

7 DIGITAL PORTRAIT: Digital Artwork (After Warhol)
Open Photoshop Set: A4 > Name: Digital Self Portrait > RGB colour>300 dpi> Save in Art folder Open your photograph file from the year 10 folder on the studentI drive Open with Photoshop Using the rectangular marquee tool select all image and paste onto your blank document 4 times (new layers will appear- you can name each layer by right clicking> rename layer) Arrange each layer and change size using Image >transform>free transform (hold shift key to prevent distortion) To move each image choose the move tool and position( make sure you have the correct layer you want to move selected first) View > Show grid to help align faces evenly and symmetrically To change the colour of each face there a couple of methods Method 1: select the layer > enhance > adjust colour > adjust hue and saturation Method 2: Select parts of the face such as hair, mouth lips and eyebrows using the magic wand tool and fill using the paintbucket tool to change into different colours. Colour: refer to Warhols work for colour examples, try to make the colours compliment each other over the whole image and choose colours carefully from the colour swatch. To match a colour use the eyedropper tool and click on the desired colour. To add the graphic style effect> Filter > artistic > poster edges> adjust Edge Intensity, Posterization and Edge thickness Other options: fill the background layer with a bright colour When completed save as a jpeg and to your teacher for colour printing! 
