Education services – What we do… We provide people of all ages with the opportunity to learn humanitarian education that is relevant to their lives. We engage young people in topics such as first aid, refugee and emergency response. We do this through: > face-to-face learning > online learning > mobile technology > education through the media > teaching resources > external educator training > peer education > partnerships

Face to face learning  We currently offer free 1 hour workshops to schools and other educational establishments on: first aid asylum seekers & refugees HIV preparing for emergencies International humanitarian law (rules of war)  We also offer a range of certificated courses for students, a current price list has been provided

Online learning You can find free downloadable lesson plans, teacher briefings, assembly plans and short films on the following websites: First aid for parents childrenfirstaid.redcross.org.uk Life. Live it. - First aid education for children aged 5-11 redcross.org.uk/teachchildrenfirstaid Download the Red Cross first aid phone app redcross.org.uk/app Red Cross humanitarian education programme redcross.org.uk/education Emergency response work in the UK and overseas redcross.org.uk

We do this through > face-to-face learning > online learning > mobile technology > education through the media > teaching resources > external educator training > peer education > partnerships

External educator training  We work with partners, such as Scout Association, Crisis & Newcastle Youth Offending Team, to provide their staff with training to allow them to educate first aid themselves internally.  An agreement is made where they feedback the number of people they have trained to us, in return for the training.

Peer education  Similar to external educators training, peer education involves training students in schools to deliver training to their peers in school.  This training is delivered in assemblies and citizenship/PSHE lessons. A school teacher is allocated to run the group internally, with support from Red Cross.  Peer educators compete with other schools across the North East, who also run peer education projects, so see who can educate the most within an academic year.

Partnerships  We currently work in partnership with the following organisations to run projects and education with young people:  Tyne and Wear Fire & Rescue Service – North & South Tyneside Crucial Crews  Sunderland City of Sanctuary – Offering refugee workshops for their ‘School of Sanctuary’ scheme  Sunderland museums & RNLI – An art competition for schools to educate on local history and to celebrate the 100 th anniversary of WWI.

Thank you Any questions? 14
