An overview of revisions PRE-K SEL INSERVICE

 Think about something that you hate to do. It is not your favorite. It is “that” thing.  Think about what you do to “reward” yourself for doing it.  Do you get the t-shirt from the 5K?  Do you drink wine while doing dishes at night?  Do you give yourself some chocolate after you vacuum? Tell everyone your name, your “something” and your “reward” to match it. OPENING ACTIVITY REWARDS

 During the revisions of the benchmark summary table the following social-emotional benchmarks were added 1.22 Shares, takes turns 1.23 Follows rules 1.24 Expresses care and concern for others 1.25 Identifies one’s own feelings 1.26 Expresses thoughts and feelings in words 1.27 Reads and understands others’ emotions and intentions 1.28 Seeks support form others when needs assistance 1.29 Expresses strong emotions constructively 1.30 Pays attention 1.31 Accepts consequences 1.32 Practices new skill 1.33 Delays gratification BENCHMARKS UPDATED

 Lesson 12- Social-Emotional Teaching Strategies I  Objective  There has been a change in language to focus on the behavior not the child.  Old definition: Bullying– one child who repeatedly and deliberately intimidates or abuses another child.  New definition: Bullying– the act of repeatedly or deliberately intimidating and/or abusing another person.  Throughout the whole discussion of bullying behavior, there are several areas where language was modified for clarity to the reader that bullying is the behavior. Labeling children as bullies in preschool is not developmentally appropriate. BULLY LANGUAGE

 Every child (person) has a culture that is individually their culture.  Understanding where children and families are coming from regarding culture is imperative to us as educators. EVERY CHILD HAS A CULTURE
