 Breast cancer is a disease where malignant (cancer) cells grow in the breast tissue.  Its considered a heterogeneous disease- differing by individual, age group, and even the kinds of cells within the tumors.  Usually it originates in the inner lining of the milk ducts or in the lobules which supply the ducts with milk.

 Size, stage, and rate of growth depend on the treatment.  Men can get breast cancer.

Women are most likely to get this disease however men that get it have worse outcomes due to late detection.

 Average age to get breast cancer- 68  By race 1. White 2. Black 3. Asian/ Pacific Islander 4. Hisponic 5. American Indian/ Alaska Native

 15% of cancer cases are breast cancer  1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in their life  Breast cancer is the second highest cancer in women behind skin cancer  Chances of getting cancer doubles if an immediate family member had it

 For 2012 the American Cancer Society estimates that 211,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed and 43,300 patients will die from it.

 In 2010 there were more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States.
