Workshop Report on Presented by: Md. Mukhlesur Rahman Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) 1 Tools for an E-info Discovery system University of Antwerp, Belgium 8-19 December, 2014

Introduction 2 Managing and providing access to the digital resources is a major concern for the library and informational professionals worldwide. Resource discovery is the process of identifying and providing access to information relevant to users’ requirement from various internal as well as external sources of library and information centers. For enhancing user satisfaction, there needs an user-friendly, easy-to-use discovery tool. There are a lot of tools has been using for this purpose worldwide. We participated two weeks workshop on discovering a suitable E-info discovery tool at UA organized by VLIR-UOS.

Objectives 3 To exchange of expertise and experience between Flemish experts and librarians in the South to enhance the accessibility of scientific publications. To presenting best practices and a policy on e-info discovery and management system by using an e-toolkit.

Experience gathered (Discovery systems) 4 Repository: Base Bielefeld, OAIster, OpenDOAR, ROAR Open Access: Directory of Open Access Journals, Hindawi, DOAB (Open Access Books) Special programs: Research4Life, INASP- PERII, Eifl, eJDS, Highwire, JStor Africa Open search engines – databases: PubMed Entrez, PubChem, AGRIS, TEEAL, Open Science Directory, Google: Google Scholar, Google Books, Google Patents

Experience gathered (Discovery Tools) 5 Open source software: ABCD LibreCat LibriSource VUFind Subject Plus Special programs: Summon by Hinari, Agora, OARE: Discovery tools Link resolvers KIOX (LibHub) by USAID Commercial products: EBSCO: EDS, Linksource ProQuest: Summon, 360 Link Ex Libris (?): Primo, SFX OCLC: WorldCat

E-resources of IUB Library INASP-PERI Consortium UGC Consortium: JSTOR, Emerald IP Based Subscription: ProQuest ABI Global Package Free Resources: HINARI, OARE, AGORA and ARDI 6 American Chemical SocietyWiley Online EBSCOHostSpringerLink Astronomical JournalInstitute of Physics Publishing American Physical SocietyMary Ann Liebert, Inc. Publishing American Society of Civil EngineersBeech Tree Publishing Annual ReviewsCambridge University Press Oxford University PressWiley-Online Library e-books: Taylor & Francis, De Gruyter LIS Books & ProjectMUSE e-Databases: World Bank WDI, ADI, GEM

My expectation from the workshop I was expecting to find out any suitable open source E-info discovery platform where user will be able to discover all of our local and subscribed resources in a single search interface. 7

What I discovered from the workshop 1.VuFind can be adapted for discovering local resources like catalogue, repository and other databases, 2.Summon can be a good solution for Proquest and Research4Life resources, 3.Google scholar and Link Resolver may be used for other IP based subscribed resources. 8

Remarks regarding E-info discovery Tools Every tools are good in any particular aspects. There is no specific tools to adapt for all types of libraries without any bias. 9

My future plan Will study and analysis all the relevant tools to know details about them. Will try to implement individual tools to find out most suitable options for IUB Library. 10

Conclusion User satisfaction is the main motto of any library and information centres. Library professionals must find out appropriate solution to enhance user satisfaction. Accordingly, they must plan and implement E- info discovery tools as per their resources and user requirement. 11
