What is a Preposition? A preposition is a part of speech that introduces a prepositional phrase.

For example, in the sentence Timothy sat on the raft., the word on is a preposition, introducing the prepositional phrase on the raft.

For example, in the sentence Santa slid down the chimney., the word down is a preposition, introducing the prepositional phrase down the chimney.
