Personal Profile Joseph was born in 1827 Joseph Lister was a surgeon who came up with new ways of cleaning pricables. Joseph Lister was born in Upton, Essex, England, on April 5, He was the second of three children born to Joseph Jackson Lister, a very successful wine merchant and amateur scientist.

Joseph lister’s Work Joseph worked in future medical knowledge he did not discover a new drug he improved the cleanliness of the surgeon.

Other Facts Joseph Lister studied at the University of London and he entered the Royal College of Surgeons when he was 26. His greatest contribution to medicine was to promote the use of carbolic acid as an antiseptic. By 1879 Lister’s ideas had been accepted by most hospitals in Britain.
