Plaque Psoriasis By: Alexis Edwards 6 th

Description Plaque psoriasis is a skin condition in which chronic autoimmune appears on the skin. Psoriasis can range from mild to severe.

Scientific Description The stratum basal layer is the layer most affected but also the first layer of the epidermis.

Signs/Symptoms Red patches of skin covered with silvery scales Small scaling spots (common in children.) Dry, cracked skin that may bleed. Itching, burning, or soreness. Thickened, pitted or ridged skin. Swollen and stiff joints.

Cause(s) When the immune system mistakes a normal skin cell for a pathogen and sends out faulty signals that causes overproduction of new skin cells. Someone in your family also had it.

Cure There is no cure as of yet for Psoriasis. Though there is medication you can take such as enbral and Humira.

Worst case scenario If left untreated you could potentially get a life threatening disease. Also your life would become very uncomfortable. You may also have severe Psoriasis which covers more than 10% of the body.

3 Facts  There is more than one type.  It is a lifelong disease.  Psoriasis has a large hereditary component which affects both sex’s equally.
