FARMERS TRAINING & SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CENTER HYDERABAD Progress Report 1

Aims and Objectives 2 Economic development and Self Reliance of Farmers of Sindh  To increase/ optimize per acre yield of crops cultivated in Sindh  To boost meat and milk production of cattle farms of Sindh  To boost fish production of Sindh  To teach methods water conservancy, and new irrigation techniques  To introduce information technology and Agri apps  To develop a comprehensive training manual in local language

Introduction 3  Course was publicized in news papers and T.V Channels in mid February 2014  74 students got registered  54 Students got registered at Hari Mela Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam.  Out of which a batch of 25 was selected for training  Framers training and skills development first batch was started on 10 th, May 2014

Syllabus 4  A series of focus group meetings were held by progressive farmers, agriculture university academicians, experts of live stock, fisheries, soil sciences, entomologists, agronomist, forestry, horticulture, poultry, information technology and agriculture extension to develop a practical course for farmers of Sindh  After a round of meetings a syllabus was developed which can mirror our objectives  A need assessment class was conducted of trainees to further improve upon syllabus

Syllabus 5  25 workshops /Experiments  18 fields visits  100 lectures

Faculty/resource persons 6  A Ph.D in plant pathology was recruited as Principal FTSDC  Two M.Sc Agriculture were recruited as lecturers  25 Agri experts were identified as resource person to conduct lectures

Achievements 8  Lectures 95  Workshops/experiments 18/10  Field visits 6  Library  Books 200  CDs 48 - Videos 200  Scientific lab  I.T lab with 12 computers & 1 projector

Training Manual 10  90% topics/lectures/presentations collected  25 lecture translated in local languages  1 Lecture Video was Recorded  Material on soil science translated in Sindhi  Material on pesticides translation under process

Steps for development manual 11  Collection of relevant material (text books, lectures, presentations, pictures, animations and videos).  Summarization organization of material in logical sequence  Experts reviews  Ghost writing editing  Critic review  Translation in local languages editing of videos / pictures / drawing pictures & making new videos if needed  Proof reading / publications

Cost Benefit ratio 13  25 farmers Rs  Rs per student per course  25 farmers can improve upon their earning by Rs one lac per year to Rs per year for the next years  Agri university students will find better jobs  Trickling of skills and knowledge to other farmers of Sindh
