Presentation transcript:

Notes: This introductory slide will prepare my second grade students for the new math skill, addition with regrouping. The text narration has a conversational tone. I want the students to feel at ease as I am introducing a more advanced skill. The layout is simple to avoid overwhelming the students. Animation (yes or no): yes Text/Audio Narration: Our new math skill is addition with regrouping. We will be working together on using the strategy: Draw A Picture to help you find the answers for addition problems. Title: Addition with Regrouping Scene (opening page): Introduction to Addition Skill Graphics (yes or no) : yes Audio (yes or no): no Slide number: 1 Skill or Concept: Addition

Notes: This slide reviews place value words that are critical to the addition skill. The word sum was also briefly talked about in another chapter, but needs a more detailed explanation. This slide uses the personalization principle when I used the word “you” to explain the meaning of sum. There is also conversational style in the audio narration. The layout is simple so the animation does not distract the learner. Animation (yes or no): yes Text/Audio Narration: Let’s review some math words that we have already heard and used before. When we are looking at numbers, there are two columns. On the right is the ONES column and on the left is the TENS column. When we add these two numbers together, we get another number. In this addition problem, forty-three is the SUM. The sum is the answer when you add two numbers. Title: Addition with Regrouping Scene: Review math vocabulary words Graphics (yes or no) yesAudio(yes or no): yes Slide number: 2 Skill or Concept: Addition

Notes: This slide begins the pretraining of a new word the students will encounter through modeling and independent practice. This slide provides a transformational graphic that allows the students to see the process of regrouping. This slide provides a worked example of how to regroup. Animation (yes or no): yes Text/Audio Narration: Look at this addition problem. We will add the ones column first. Six plus seven equals thirteen. Oh no! We cannot have two numbers in one place. Since the three is in the ones place, we write it in the ones column. The one is in the tens so we will regroup the one and carry it over to the tens column. This will give us the answer four in the tens column. Title: Addition with Regrouping Scene: Teach new math vocabulary words Graphics (yes or no) yesAudio(yes or no): yes Slide number: 3 Skill or Concept: Addition

Notes: This slide presents the students with a worked example and usesaudio narration to explain the process of regrouping and how to do so correctly. This slide also provides a worked example of what regrouping is and how the process works. The animation in this slide provides a transformational graphic. The layout is simple to allow for the animation. Animation (yes or no): yes Text/Audio Narration: Here is another example of regrouping. We will begin adding this problem with the ONES column on the right. Seven plus nine equals sixteen. Sixteen is a two-digit number. We cannot put two numbers in one place. Since the six in sixteen is in the ones place, we will write it in the ones column. The one is in the tens so we will regroup the one and carry it over to the tens column. We are now able to add the number s in the tens column on the left. One plus three plus two equals six. Title: Addition with Regrouping Scene: Teach new math vocabulary words Graphics (yes or no) yesAudio(yes or no): yes Slide number: 4 Skill or Concept: Addition

Notes: This introductory slide begins the worked example for how to utilize the strategy to find the sum of the problem. Throughout slides 5-9, I will be segmenting the steps of using this strategy to regroup while adding. There is only text narration and no animation. Animation (yes or no): yes Text/Audio Narration: This storyboard introduces you to our next math skill: addition with regrouping. We will be working together to on using the strategy Draw A Picture to help you find the answers for addition problems. Title: Addition with Regrouping Scene (opening page): Introduction to Strategy Graphics (yes or no) : yes Audio (yes or no): no Slide number: 5 Skill or Concept: Addition

Notes: This is the first segmented step of how to use the strategy. This slide offers the learner audio narration and animation as a worked example. This slides uses the multimedia principle to enhance learning. There are transformational graphics. This slide also provides immediate feedback. Animation (yes or no): yes Text/Audio Narration: Draw a picture to show the tens and ones in 48. Draw the tens and ones for 26. Now that we have made a quick picture of the tens and ones of these two-digit numbers, let’s look at the ones. Are there ten or more ones? Let’s count. Title: Addition with Regrouping Scene (opening page): Introduction to Strategy Graphics (yes or no) : yes Audio(yes or no): yes Slide number: 6 Skill or Concept: Addition

Notes: This slide demonstrates the personalization principle through the use of a visible author. There is a conversational style in the audio narration. The layout continues to be simple in order to provide clear instruction. Animation (yes or no): yes Text/Audio Narration: When we counted the ones, we learned that there are fourteen. This is more than nine. The rule states that you cannot have more than nine ones in the ones place. In order to fix this, we must circle ten ones. I like to call this the MAGIC TEN! When you have circled ten ones, these ten ones can form a ten to be regrouped. Title: Addition with Regrouping Scene (opening page): Introduction to Strategy Graphics (yes or no) : yes Audio(yes or no): yes Slide number: 7 Skill or Concept: Addition

Notes: This slide offers the learner audio narration and animation. The transformational graphics help the learner to see the process of regrouping the ten ones to make a ten. The layout of the slide continues to be simple. The regrouped ten is red in order to stand out to the learner. Animation (yes or no): yes Text/Audio Narration: Once you have circled ten ones to make the MAGIC TEN, the ones will form a ten and move into the tens place. This is called regrouping. Title: Addition with Regrouping Scene (opening page): Introduction to Strategy Graphics (yes or no) : yes Audio(yes or no): yes Slide number: 8 Skill or Concept: Addition

Notes: This slide finishes the last step of the segmented worked example for adding with regrouping. The audio narration offers conversational style. The layout of the slide continues to be simple. The regrouped ten is red in order to stand out to the learner. The animation is sequential and easy to follow. Animation (yes or no): yes Text/Audio Narration: Your picture has now changed since you regrouped the MAGIC TEN to the tens place. Count the ones you have left. Record this number on the line in front of the word ones. Now count your tens. Write the number on the line in front of tens. Using your tens and ones, what is the sum for your addition problem? Title: Addition with Regrouping Scene (opening page): Introduction to Strategy Graphics (yes or no) : yes Audio(yes or no): yes Slide number: 9 Skill or Concept: Addition
