Number Sense: 1.0 Count and group objects in ones and tens (e.g., three groups of 10 and 4 equals 34, or 30+4

2 Our Learning Objective Today we will count and group objects in ones and tens.
CFU: What will we do today boys and girls? What are we going to group the objects in?

3 Activate Prior Knowledge
We know that numbers zero to nine have only one digit. For example: Once we reach 10 we have two digits and we call this 10.

4 We are going to visit the website below to help us practice counting ones and tens using base 10 blocks.

7 Steps Step one: Count ten bats.
Step two: Draw a circle around the group of ten bats. Step three: Keep making groups of ten until you only ones left. Step four: Write the number of the group of tens in the tens column and the number of ones left over in the ones column. Step five: Write your number on the line. The number you write is the number of bats that flew out of the cave.
