Literature Autobiography By Jessica Herrera
The first book that I remember being exposed to as a little girl was the bible. My mother bought me a children’s bible with pictures. I remember taking it with me to church every Sunday. I learned from the experiences that happened to some people in the bible. In my most difficult moments reading the bible helps me feel encouraged. I have read the bible in English and in Spanish. I have also read different versions and I realized that the message is still the same. This book has taught me that I need to love others as I love myself. The bible has taught me that no one is perfect and we can not judge other people. I have learned to be a humble person and I love helping others. I accept other people just as they are and I have learned to forgive. This book is very important to me and every time I read I learn something new.
The book The CAT In The HAT impacted my life because it was one of the first books I read while learning English when I was in first grade. I remember my teacher read this book out loud to the class. Then she had us all repeat the sentences together as a group. I was learning English and learning to read at the same time.
This book is about three sisters who come to this country when they were little girls. They talk about the experiences they went through adapting to living in a big city and learning English at school. In some ways I relate this book to my life even though I was born here in the United States. One of the characters in the book had to take a speech class. When I was still in the transition of learning English I was put into a speech class. My first language is Spanish just like the characters in the book. The characters in the book describe some traditions that I also have as a part of my culture. The Garcia were also the first generation in their family to go to college. In my family I am a first generation college student. My parents came from El Salvador to look for a better life here.
I remember that I had several books about the Berenstain bears. I just do not remember which ones I had. I loved reading the Berenstain bears because I was able to understand the moral of the story. I liked seeing the colorful pictures because it gave me more understanding to the story. I would read these books silently at home.
This book was important to me because it was one of the first books that I had at home. My mother bought this book for me. I was able to read it on my own. My mother did not know any English so she was not able to read to me. I would read this book sometimes before I went to sleep.
I remember reading Goldilocks and the three bears in English and in Spanish. It was one of the first books that I had in Spanish. Spanish is the first language that I learned but most of the books that I had were in English. I learned to read in Spanish by myself without anyone teaching me. I was able to make a connection between the English and the Spanish version of the story.
My learning styles My main learning style is interpersonal because I learn best while working with others. I learn best while engaged in cooperative learning group activities. One of my other learning strategies involves intrapersonal techniques. For instance, I like to work alone on some assignments. I enjoy reading books silently and independently. I learned that I am also a very linguistic person. I have a well developed vocabulary and I use context clues to find the meaning of new words when I read a book. Another of my best learning styles includes physical activity. I am not a mathematical, logical, visual, musical or naturalistic learner.
