BEST FRIEND This music video has a very strong narrative, it shows a woman envying other woman, and when the woman wants to look like one of the other women she eats them and then starts to look like them. This symbolises girls always wanting to look like other women. This video has a twisted humour behind the narrative because it is showing envy through a comical and weird way without actually explaining what the video is about.

BEST FRIEND The title of the song ‘bestfriend’ is wrote out on the coffee table in drugs and cigarettes, this creating the idea that drugs and cigarettes are the main characters best friend. The woman is also seen taking these tablets on multiple occasions so the viewer is aware of the need this woman has to take these tablets. While the woman is seen to be eating women who she in envious of, it appears that her need for these drugs are getting stronger. This makes the viewer wonder whether her need for the tablets are increasing because she is becoming more and more envious of women she is seeing around her. As the video progresses we also see that the more women she eats, the more side effects start to appear.

BEST FRIEND We can see that the main character (seen in the picture below) has pictures in her home of models and people she looks up to. The viewer can then realise that this girl is comparing herself to these people and wishes to be like them. We can see from this picture that the girl would look at these pictures of models and then feel upset about her own appearance, creating a negative comparison between how she looks and how beautiful she thinks the models are.

BEST FRIEND This super natural effect that we see from the main character just before she eats another woman she envies gives me video a cartoon effect and a more non-realistic label. The viewers can see that this video is not aiming to be realistic, it is more about the message the video is trying to send across. Here we can see that the negative outcome the woman is feeling due to eating those women, this symbolises how envy and jealousy can destroy you if you let it. I feel that that is the message this video is trying to portray.

BEST FRIEND This part of the video turns into something similar to a comic cartoon. This happens just before the woman eats another girl. I think that the reason this section of the video has turned into a cartoon is because it’s resembling how different and evil a person can become when jealousy comes over them and when they become envious. Shortly after the woman is shown eating the girl she was jealous of there is a split second picture of the woman turning into this bottom picture. I think that that symbolises that once a person gets consumed by the idea of always wanting to be like other people, they can become a completely different person. In the video the bottom picture is showing that this woman is becoming power crazed with what she can become and how many women she has eaten.

BEST FRIEND This shows that the woman has been so consumed in the idea of needing to be like everyone else she has turned herself into an unnatural, unrealistic idea of perfection. In the end of the video we see the woman collapse on the runway, I think this symbolises that even if you end up looking like your own idea of perfection, it’s not the only thing that matters. So when the woman finally achieves the image she was looking for it destroys her in the end.
