Vision & Objectives

Situation Analysis  Current problems

Core Problem  Existing Hardware condition  Problems due to current hardware

Core problem requirements  Computers need to be faster  To enrich the clients experience and provide better functionality for them.  Future proofing

Expected Benefits  Significantly faster PC performance  Purpose of computer usage broadening  Upgrading these computers will not be necessary for at least three years

Expert Analysis What? Why? Dual core processor at least 2-3Ghz High level of processing power Background task support; antivirus Foreground task support; documents, , web browsing Multitask support Ram 2-4GbWindows Vista and Windows 7 suggest 2gb of Ram 4gb ensures future-proofing Maximum ram supported by most Operating Systems Hard drive >100Gb Existing drive size is not a concern/problem 160gb hard drive will suffice Graphics Card >128mb Current Operating Systems suggest 256mb of graphics Allows for the option of a medium level of gaming Monitor >19 inch Existing 17” CRT (non-LCD) Monitors are outdated and consume a lot of power 20” Monitors are above will cater to those with poor eyesight

Additional Considerations  Warranty  Support  Delivery

Dell Solution  Meets suggested requirements  Most cost effective  Reputable computer manufacturer  Best support/warranty option Online Technical Support (during business hours) Phone support if needed

Assumptions & Constraints  IT infrastructure (networks, internet and user logins) will remain the same  Akira will be able to acquire funding to the amount that is recommended  F1 IT will assist Alkira with Operating System setup and computer maintenance

Assistive Technology  What is it  Not everyone needs it  Select groups of clients have disabilities that make it hard to interact with a computer in a traditional set up

Vision Impairments

Motor Skills Impairments

Educational Software  What alkira does currently  They want to make more use of the computers for education potential  Requirments, unsure, odnt know, not an eexpert in education for the intellectually disabled.  It is up to Alkira to determine what pacakges are appropriate to teach with  Instead I will do a brief investigation into some avaliable packages

Package 1

Package 2

Conclusions  These packages seem like they may be suitable, but I’m not and expect so I can not give any recommendations as one.  Akira needs to do its own reaseach and decided what is best for itself and its clients  Here are the hardware requirments of the packages, as you can see our recommended hardware is more than capable of running this type of educational software now and into the future. Software 1Software 2Recommended Dell Hardware 1Ghz1.2Ghz3ghz 512mb ram memory 256mb ram memory 4gb 30mb hard drive space 100mb hard drive space 320gb

Additional Games  Wii console  Enrich clients experience  Has these kinda features, active, musical, ect  For all ages  Would be a nice addition to Alkira’s recreational programs.

Major Issues  PC profile issue Same profile setting for every computer clutters in C drive Decrease overall performance  Printing issue User printing the same documents multiple times Increase the cost, waste paper

Possible Solutions for Issues  PC profile issue Giving each user a unique username and password Keep the Desktop and My Documents folder neat and tidy after restart of computer  Printing issue Printing pool control software ○ Enable managing the flow of printing jobs ○ Provides a systematic way of monitoring the overall printing. ○ Reduce paper use

Current Infrastructures Infrastructure Modifications Target Infrastructures

Problems with inappropriate use of computers  Alkira students accidently find adult websites on the internet  Minor problem although Alkira may want to address the issue now or in the future

Requirements analysis of internet filtering problem  Needs to be able to block adult websites and other unwanted non educational web sites  Needs to be cost effective  Must deliver the best value for the price  Less complex more effective solution
