RESOURCE SHARING IN INDIANA PUBLIC LIBRARIES Jennifer Clifton, Library Development Office

Overview  Evergreen  INfo Express  Indiana Share  PLAC lending  Reciprocal Borrowing  Statewide  Local  Non-residents

Evergreen Indiana  Consortium of 100+ public libraries located throughout the state.  Cardholders have access to collections of other libraries, ability to place holds/request delivery of materials.  Member libraries are eligible to join the eIndiana Digital OverDrive Consortium  Contact Anna Goben for more

INfo Express  The statewide library courier service.  Public, school, academic, institutional and special libraries are eligible to participate.  Library selects number of service days based on standards requirements and need. E.g. Class A = 3 days/week  Fees are subsidized for active (“net”) lenders.  Contact for more

Indiana SHARE  Centralized ILL service  ISL staff coordinate borrowing from other libraries statewide/nationwide.  Serving over 200 libraries.  Contact IN SHARE staff at

PLAC Cards  Public Library Access Card  Allows individual to borrow materials from any public library in Indiana.  Fee is $50/year  Some restrictions  Ebooks, audio  Must have valid public library card in good standing

PLAC Cards  Issuing libraries must submit Quarterly Report Form, remit fees  Report loans on Annual Report  Borrower’s home library  # of items borrowed  Receive reimbursement for net loans (Number of loans provided) – (Your patrons loans)  Lenders may choose to issue local library cards for tracking purposes.

Statewide Reciprocal Borrowing  Allows registered users from participating libraries (160+) to borrow books (in person) from other participating libraries across the state.  No PLAC needed  Libraries wishing to participate should complete covenant and return to ISL

Local Reciprocal Borrowing  Any 2 or more libraries may sign a local reciprocal borrowing covenant to allow only those libraries to participate in a reciprocal borrowing program.  Again, no PLAC needed

Non-Resident Fees  For residents of areas not served by a public library that wish to obtain a library card.  Libraries charge $25.00 or the library’s expenditure per capita, if greater. (May be higher.)  E.g. Pittsboro, IN residents are currently unserved. Brownsburg Public Library charges $85/year Clayton Public Library charges $40/year Since both are part of a Hendricks County local reciprocal agreement, patron can use any of 5 participating libraries.

Also recommended  Post your ILL policy/borrowing restrictions to your website to avoid confusion.
