2 Overview of Basic Steps 1.Download Adobe Digital Editions software onto your computer and authorize the computer with an Adobe ID (For instructions, see tutorial named How to Download Adobe Digital Editions and Get an Adobe ID for instructions) 2.Search for an eBook in the library’s digital collection at Over Drive 3.Check out the eBook and download it to your computer 4.Use Adobe Digital Editions to transfer the eBook from your computer to your eReader 2

4 Policies and tips to bear in mind Valid Montgomery County library card Borrowing period- 7, 14 or 21 days, you choose Borrowing limits-10 items at one time (audio and eBooks combined) Renewable – No, but can check out again if not on reserve Reserving – limited to 10 items at one time (audio and eBooks combined) Pick up a reserve book within 72 hours of email notification Late Fees – None! “Shopping” cart – lasts only 30 minutes! 5 5 Finding and Checking Out an eBook On your computer, go to http://www.mc-npl.org and click on the link to download audiobooks/eBooks.http://www.mc-npl.org

6 6 Finding and Checking Out an eBook You will arrive at the OverDrive website. OverDrive manages the digital collection for the Montgomery County Library District. As soon as you get there you should Sign In.

7 Refine search 7 Finding and Checking Out an eBook To sign into OverDrive you’ll need your library card and the name of the library that serves the area where you live. As soon as you start typing your library, a list will drop down and you can select it from the list.

8 Refine search 8 Finding and Checking Out an eBook Next, enter your library barcode number and then click Sign In

9 Refine search 9 Finding and Checking Out an eBook We are going to search for a book by a particular author. To begin, click on Advanced Search.

10 Refine search 10 Finding and Checking Out an eBook This is the Advanced Search form. We will be searching for a book by Stephen King. Enter his name in the Author/Creator field.

11 Refine search 11 Finding and Checking Out an eBook Next we’ll select a format. EPUB eBook is a format that you can read on the Nook Simple Touch. (Open EPUB and PDF can be read also but there are more EPUBs in the collection)

12 Refine search 12 Finding and Checking Out an eBook Finally, we’ll look for titles that can be checked out immediately. Click into the Show only titles with copies available box. Click the Search button.

14 Refine search 14 Finding and Checking Out an eBook The book is available in formats other than EPUB. We’ll have to choose a format when we download it. Click the Borrow button.

15 Refine search 15 Downloading your book and transferring to your Reader Once the Borrow button is clicked you are taken to your OverDrive bookshelf. Our book is there plus some others we borrowed as well. We need to select a format to Download. Click on the Download button.

16 Refine search 16 Click on the EPUB eBook format and then click Confirm & Download Downloading your book and transferring to your Reader

17 Refine search 17 Depending on which internet browser you are using you may be prompted to open or save the book file. Always choose Open. Downloading your book and transferring to your Reader

18 18 Your book will automatically open in the Adobe Digital Editions software on your computer. To transfer to your reader click on the Library button. Downloading your book and transferring to your Reader

19 19 This is the Library view. You can see various Bookshelves on the left and on the right you can see your book on the All Items bookshelf. Downloading your book and transferring to your Reader

20 20 Turn on your Reader and using the USB cord, plug it into the USB port on your computer. You should now be able to see it listed above the Bookshelves on the left. Downloading your book and transferring to your Reader

21 21 Click and drag the book jacket over towards the Nook… Downloading your book and transferring to your Reader

22 22 When you are pointing correctly to the Nook entry you will see a green +. You can then let go. Downloading your book and transferring to your Reader

24 24 When you click on the Nook on the left, notice your book has now been transferred to your Reader. Downloading your book and transferring to your Reader

25 25 Before your disconnect your Reader, you should Eject it from the computer. Go to Computer. Right-Click on the Nook drive and select Eject. You can now safely disconnect your Reader. Safely Eject Your Reader

26 26 Press the button on your Nook to open the main menu.

27 27 Then, tap “Library”.

28 28 Tap the book title to open the book.

30 30 Should you want to return a book early or remove it from the Nook once you are finished reading it, all this must be done through Adobe Digital Editions on your computer. Managing your Borrowed eBooks

31 31 To return your book early, open Adobe Digital Editions on your computer, and click on the All Items bookshelf on the left, then right- click on the book jacket and select Return Borrowed Item. Managing your Borrowed eBooks

32 32 Respond to the prompt Managing your Borrowed eBooks

33 33 To remove a book from your Nook, open ADE, plug your Nook into your computer and select it on the left side. Right-click on the book jacket and select Remove from Library. Managing your Borrowed eBooks
