Lets Play Jeopardy!

Clay Construction Methods Heat it Up!Getting Dirty

In this construction method you roll the clay into thin, long pieces like worms to make a pot.

What is the coil construction method.

The process of baking clay in a kiln.

What is firing?

This is a technique where you use a tool to create a rough surface when joining two pieces of clay together.

What is scoring?

In this construction method you use flat sheets of clay to build a clay sculpture.

What is the slab construction method?

The name of the “oven” used to bake ceramic or clay projects?

What is a kiln?

In this clay construction method you use your thumb to begin sculpting. Then you continue to sculpt squeezing the clay with your thumb and fingers.

What is the pinch pot construction method?

The temperature at which clay is fired to in the kiln.

What is 1800°-1900°? (Any answer in this range is acceptable.)

Using a potter’s wheel to make something out of clay.

What is throwing?

This is a liquid substance that you put on clay when attaching two or more clay pieces together.

What is slip?

This substance is made of fine-grained minerals, is found in the ground, and hardens when dried or fired in a kiln.

What is clay?

This substance is made of finely ground minerals. Sometimes this substance is put on a ceramics piece and then fired in a kiln. After it comes out of the kiln this substance turns shiny, waterproof, and glass-like.
