Landforms on Earth

What are Landforms? Landforms are Earth's physical features. The following are examples of Landforms: Volcanoes, Mountains, Valleys, Canyons, Caves, and Islands

Where Can We Find these Landforms? These landforms can be found on Earth's outer layer called the crust.

What are Volcanoes? Volcanoes are openings in Earth's crust from which lava flows. The lava builds up the volcanic rock.

What are Mountains? Mountains are features that are much higher than the land around them.

Are Plateaus Mountains?

What are Islands? Islands are small pieces of land that are completely surrounded by water.

What are Valleys? Valleys are lowland areas between two higher areas such as mountains. Sometimes, valleys are made by rivers.

What are Canyons? Canyons are valleys with very steep sides. These are formed by rivers flowing through them.

Compare and Contrast a Valley and a Canyon

What are Caverns (Caves)? Caverns are underground chambers, or rooms, that have been weathered by water.
