Features of Plants with seeds and Life Support for plants v.Martinez A20-24 and A72-75

What is a seed made of? A seed is made of a young plant inside the seed called the embryo and food.

2. Where are seeds found? Seeds are found in cones and fruit.

Seeds in fruit

3. What do cone bearing and flowering plants form? Cone bearing and flowering plants form seeds.

4. The seeds of a pine tree form where? They form between the scales of its cones.

5. Flowers are the reproductive parts of plants.

6. The male parts of the flower form pollen and the female parts form eggs.

7. What is the part of the flowering plant that contains and protects seeds? The fruit contains and protects the seeds.

8. What are 4 things a plant needs to survive? A plant needs air, nutrients, water, and light. http://www.rock-hill.k12.sc.us/teachers/rwes/dward/plantquest/plantquest_files/what_does_a_plant_need_to_grow.htm

9. What does air contain that plants need? Air contains carbon dioxide.

10. Soil provides the plant with what? Soil provides most plants with needed nutrients, which are substances such as minerals that all living things need to grow.

11. How do plants take in water? Most plants take in water by the roots; some plants take in water through their leaves.

12. Carbon dioxide is taken in and _______by tiny holes in the underside of leaves. Carbon dioxide is taken in and given off by tiny holes in the underside of leaves.

13. A plant makes its food by a process called __. Photosynthesis

14. In order for photosynthesis to take place a plant needs what? A plant needs light, carbon dioxide, water, and water.

15. Give an example of plant adaptation: Water lilies capture sunlight through the flat pads that float on the surface of the water. Cactus is adapted for dry climates by using its thick stem for water storage.
