Do Now: Job Application Answer in complete sentences. 1.What is a job application? 2.Where do you get a job application? 3.How should you dress when you pick up an application?

Filling Out a Job Application Objective: To give students experience in filling out a job application.

Job Application If you are interested in obtaining a job, you must pick up the application in person. Every employer has its own form, they might look a little different, but they all have similar information that needs to be filled out.

Job Application Cont. You usually have to fill out the information at the employment site. Read each question carefully and think about your response BEFORE you write! – Neatness counts! – Crossed-out answers give a bad impression! – It’s also a good idea to bring your own pen; one with a fine point that doesn’t smear or drip.

Social Security Card You will need a Social Security Card (SSN). If you don’t have one, you need to apply for your card NOW! Call the social security office in your city (ours is in Santa Maria) or visit for office locations near you. You are going to want to MEMORIZE your SSN! Do not let others know your number (except trusted sources; like an employer.) Identity thieves steal your money, take out credit cards in your name based on this number! SECURE YOUR CARD AND NUMBER!

Birth Certificate You might need your birth certificate to verify your age. If you don’t have one, you can obtain one (it will cost money) from the Department of Health (behind the Lompoc Police Department).

Driver’s License You will need your driver’s license as well! The employer may take a photocopy of it to prove your age. Always have it with you!

You Should Also Bring… Bring your resume! You might be asked to include your supervisor’s name and phone number and your salary when listing previous employers. Be prepared with references PRIOR to obtaining an application. References are those who are NOT in your family (i.e. teachers, former employers, friends, etc.)

Job Applications: Activity 257 Answer the questions on Activity 257. These questions WILL BE ASKED on the application! Answer them honestly! If you lie on your job application, you will not get the job AND if you have been hired, you can be FIRED based on your lies!

Filling out a Real Application Fill out the real application I handed out to you. You may need your parents help in filling out the form, but fill out as much as you can now! You should refer back to this application, as you will fill out MANY in your lifetime.
