Online Teaching Portfolios Creating an Online Portfolio The easy way!

Content Content: What is an Online Portfolio or ePortfolio? Why create an ePortfolio? Characteristics of an effective ePortfolio Content of an ePortfolio Putting it all together...

Online Portfolio / ePortfolio Online – meaning it will be easily accessible on the Worldwide Web. ePortfolio – meaning electronic Portfolio. It is easy to back up an Online Portfolio and burn it onto a CD-R Similar to a hardcopy/paper Teaching Portfolio – but some advantages!

Why create an ePortfolio… instead of a hardcopy/paper Portfolio? Accessibility: easy access for a potential employer Up-to-date: you have access at any time to change/update the information Content: can include a larger array of materials and multimedia representative of your teaching Format: the format alone shows that you are computer savvy

Two types of ePortfolios: Summative – for applying for an academic position/promotion or tenure Formative – for personal and professional development

Characteristics… of an effective ePortfolio Structured  Organized – easy to navigate and find information  Complete – include all the necessary information  Creative Representative  Comprehensive – be representative of your teaching and who you are as a person Selective  Do not include EVERYTHING.  You want your best materials to stand out.

Other KEY Factors to think about: Professional  You do not want inappropriate information published/linked.  You do not want advertising (banners or pop-ups)  You do not want addresses such as Creative  You want your ePortfolio to stand out and be memorable  You do not want your ePortfolio to be gimicky!
