GREAT MIGRATION A MASS MOVEMENT OF AFRICAN AMERICANS FROM THE SOUTH TO THE NORTHERN CITIES OF AMERICA APROXIMATELY 6 MILLION AA’S MOVED IN HOPES OF A BETTER LIFE.

GREAT MIGRATION THEY WERE LEAVING IN HOPES OF : ESCAPING THE JIM CROW LAWS OF THE SOUTH ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES (JOBS)

GREAT MIGRATION BLACKS FOUND WORK BECAUSE THERE WERE MANY FACTORY JOBS LEFT BEHIND WHEN THE WHITE MEN IN THE NORTH LEFT TO GO FIGHT IN WORLD WAR I.

LITERATURE MANY BLACK WRITERS EMERGED FROM THE TIME PERIOD. THEY MAINLY WROTE ABOUT WHAT IT IS LIKE TO LIVE AS A BLACK AMERICAN.

HARLEM HARLEM BECAME A LARGE AREA OF UNEMPLOYED BLACKS STRUGGLING TO SURVIVE THROUGH DRUGS, CRIME, PROSTITUTION, AND GANG VIOLENCE

UNTIL…….. BLACKS WERE FORCED OUT BECAUSE THEY COULD NO LONGER AFFORD TO LIVE THERE.

gentrification- the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents.
