Welcome to Lincoln, Nebraska! Capital of Nebraska and 2 nd largest city Population: over 250,000 people (and several cows) 6 public and 5 private high schools 7 four-year institutions in Lincoln 1 Community College

Getting to know… Undergraduate students: 17,371 Out-of-State Students: 26% Transfers Starting annually: 28% Academic Majors: 150 Tommy Lee sightings: numerous

Transfer Students at UNL Approximately 442 students transferred from SCC to UNL in the academic year Students transferred into these colleges at UNL:

S A look at… Serves a 15 county area in the state of Nebraska. 4 major campuses: Beatrice – about 1,000 students, has an Academic Transfer program and several vocational programs Milford – about 1,000 students, all programs are vocational. Lincoln – over 7,000 students. Approximately 1 in 4 students are in the Academic Transfer program. Other programs are vocational. Energy Square – an extension of the Lincoln campus, located about 3 blocks away from the University of Nebraska. Classes are taught during the day, in the evenings, on weekends and online.

Oh, the Places You’ll Go:

A little bit of SCC history: Southeast Community College was first organized in Today, it has an overall enrollment of approximately 9,000 students. There are 50 different programs of study with several additional areas of focus available within a program. The Academic Transfer program began at the Lincoln campus in Prior to that, it was offered only in Beatrice.

The Birth of a Transfer Program… The Academic Transfer program at SCC started out very small, with the Dean of Academic Education serving as the only advisor. As the program grew, full-time faculty members were required to assume advising duties as well, following the model of all other programs on campus. Eventually, one faculty member was given release time from instructional duties to coordinate all advising duties. FTE

Growing Up Fast! As the program grew in numbers and complexity, full-time Academic Advisors were hired to work specifically with transfer students. An Academic Advising Center was formed in 2002 and staffed with 3 professional advisors. The Advising Center is housed in the same location as faculty offices. In 2003 all campuses at SCC adopted the 10-week quarter system. There are 4 10-week quarters in the academic year.

Why are Students Coming to SCC? SCC transfer students are attending our school because: Planning to transfer directly to a 4-year school Not successful at a 4-year school and need a fresh start Clearing up admissions deficiencies Full time students at a 4-year school picking up some extra classes Taking prerequisite courses for a vocational two-year degree Class schedule is accommodating Students can earn an Associate of Arts or Science degree Credits from SCC transfer very well throughout the state and nation.

Colleges that students transfer to in the state Bellevue University Bryan College of Health Sciences Chadron State College Clarkson College College of Saint Mary Concordia University Creighton University Dana College Doane College Grace University Hastings College Midland Lutheran College Nebraska Methodist College Nebraska Wesleyan University Peru State College Union College University of Nebraska system Wayne State College York College Omaha Lincoln

Bridging the Gap There are a number of ways that SCC and the 4 year institutions facilitate contact with our students. Among them are: Transfer fairs NACRAO statewide coordination All-College Transfer fair And one of our most successful events….
