SAP – Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing SAP R/3 – 4.7 version Why implement SAP? Highly Configurable Customizable processes Manageable on multiple platforms and operating systems The main advantage of using SAP as your company ERP system is that SAP have a very high level of integration among its individual applications which guarantee consistency of data throughout the system and the company itself.

The most widely used modules are Financials and Controlling (FI/CO), Human Resources (HR), Materials Management (MM), Sales & Distribution (SD), and Production Planning (PP).

SAP is a Client Server based Application in a 3 tier model The Three Tier Architecture:R/3 Presentation Layer – Client interfaces with user Application Layer – Business specific logic Database Layer – Records and stores all the information about the system

Scalability – adding more application or more users to the system Flexibility – the number of application modules may be increased without changing the basis system software that runs on the application servers and the database server. On-going maintenance – business function included in the system may be removed and replaced by other functions that better match current business practices
