Instructional Goal Identify the parts and functions of a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) Camera

Needs Assessment What is: What should be: The “gap”:

What is: Students are unable to know the DSLR parts and functions.

What Should Be: Photography is important to society because it allows people to record historical events, share and communicate.

The “gap” Students are unable to identify the lens, body, flash, viewfinder and shutter release and the functions.

Learner Analysis The learners are college students taking an elective visual arts class. There are no expectations for the students to know the basic parts of the camera.

3.1b Assessment The student will be shown 3 different images varying from different types of depth of field. The student will correctly choose the photo with a balanced depth of field.

3.1c Objective The student will be able to explain and identify aperture, which is the opening of lens that light shines through when a photo is taken.

3.1c Assessment The student will be shown f-stops on a standard scale in which each increase represents an aperture that allows half as much light to get through. The student will be shown 3 photos and with multiple choice they must use the proper f-stop for lighting conditions.

3.1d Objective The student will be able to use focus during manual setting.

3.1d Assessment The student must successfully take a photo of an object in focus when the DSLR is in manual mode.

3.1e Objective The student will be able to explain and adjust white balance.
