LEARNING OBJECTIVES  Discuss the level of education required to achieve a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.  Identify common training experiences that support this career goal.

EDUCATION  MY PATH B.S. in History of Technology and Society B.A. in Psychology B.A. in Religious Studies M.A. in Clinical Psychology M.A. in Theology Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology  A NORMAL, SENSIBLE PATH A bachelor’s degree in Psychology will make it much easier for you. You’ll most likely get a “non-terminal” masters degree while you’re pursuing the Ph.D. A Psy.D. will also do the trick…don’t think that you absolutely need a Ph.D.

TRAINING  When do I get to do therapy?!?! I did not get to provide therapy until my first year of graduate school.  During graduate school, I worked part-time at different clinics and hospitals for course credit. Fuller Psychological & Family Services Pasadena Mental Health Center Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation Sepulveda VA Medical Center Walter Reed Army Medical Center

PERSONAL MOTIVATIONS  Enjoyed listening to others.  Fantasies about being heard and valued.  Fascination with the similarities between the Bible and the field of psychology.  Commitment to lifelong personal growth.

A DAY IN THE LIFE… 0500 – Wake up – Arrive at morning formation – Conduct PT – “S___, shower, shave.” 0900 – Staff triage cases – staff meetings, command consultation – scheduled therapy appointments – write notes – Return home.
