2  We appreciate your interest in a graduate degree in clinical psychology at UCF.  We like (love?) UCF undergraduates.  Every year, we aim for a class size of 15 from over 120 applicants.  The goal related to admission is to figure out if we (and you) are a good match.

3  Your degree will be a Master of Arts in Psychology  Prepares you to work as a therapist in a community agency (may also lead to an administrative position in time)  Prepares you to work in private practice in Florida as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) (& possibly in other states!?)

4  Our program prepares you to work as a counselor in a community agency and later as an independent practitioner, if you choose.  Graduates will NOT be a: ◦ Psychologist ◦ Social Worker ◦ Psychiatrist ◦ Psychometrician

5  Full-time two-year experience (6 semesters; 61credits)  Lots of information to squeeze into the limited time  But program also has a “hands-on” emphasis  Academic preparation (46 hours) with pre- master’s practicum (3 hours) and pre- master’s internship (12 hours)

6  Therapy Courses: Individual; Group; Child, Adolescent, and Family; Cognitive-Behavioral; Cross-Cultural; Marital and Sex; & Substance Abuse  Foundation Courses: Developmental, Advanced Abnormal, Research Methods, Individual Assessment, & Lifestyle and Career Assessment  Practicum and Internship: Tailored to your interests and career goals

7  Classes include applied/experiential components and focus on personal as well as intellectual growth  Practicum beginning in spring of first year – 10 hours per week (150 hours total) in a community mental health setting  Internship beginning in fall of second year – 20-30 hours per week (1000 hours total; at least 400 direct client contact hours)

8  Post-M.A. supervised experience which is registered with the State Board. Usually takes two years.  National Exam  State Rules and Regulations Exam then you are  Eligible for independent practice

9  APA does NOT accredit master’s programs.  CACREP accreditation is for counseling programs.  Most states focus on CACREP accreditation guidelines as a requirement for licensure.  Our program is consistent with requirements for licensure in FL as an LMHC.

10  Yes, but our primary goal is to prepare students for professional practice.  We encourage lifelong learning and achievement. Keys to success are: ◦ Research Products ◦ High GRE ◦ Networking  We have MANY students who have gone on to earn their Psy.D or Ph.D. at great schools all over the country.

13  All courses at Sanford/Lake Mary Campus  We schedule courses on 2-3 days per week  Program Meetings on Thursdays – we invite speakers, share meals, and learn together

14  Applications for Fall 2015 are due January 1 st  Material considered/required:  On-line application  GRE (General exam)  GPA (Last 60 hours)  Personal statement  Curriculum Vita/Resume  At least 3 letters of recommendation  Helpful experience:  “Helping”  Research

15 Financial Aid is limited.  Department Graduate Teaching Assistantships (3)  Loans
