Graphics Package n A graphics package is another General Purpose Package. n It is used to draw pictures on the monitor.

Graphics Package n The pictures produced can be used in many ways. – The pictures can be put with text in a document, like a report or book – They may be used in computer games – They may be used for special effects in TV programmes or films. – Photographs can be altered

Features of a Graphics Package n The following features can be found in a graphics package. – Draw graphic – Enter text – Common tools – Alter tool attributes – Scale graphics – Rotate graphics – Scan and edit graphics – Crop graphics

Features of a Graphics Package n Draw Graphic – The cursor or pointer is moved on the screen and creates the shape that is required. – Different programs use different methods for moving the cursor around the screen. n Mouse n Trackpad n Graphics tablet n Keyboard

Features of a Graphics Package n Enter Text – Graphics packages allow you to enter text anywhere on the screen.

Features of a Graphics Package n Common Tools – Graphics packages all share the same common tools used for drawing. n Shapes – circle, ellipse, rectangle, etc n Free hand drawing – pencil, brush n Selection – arrow, rectangle, etc n Fill – set fill colour, line colour n Eraser n Text n Zoom – A menu of the tools is available on the screen. This is called the toolbar.

Features of a graphics package n Alter Tool Attributes – Each tool will allow you to change it’s properties. – The line tool can be changed to draw a thicker line. – The shading of a colour can be changed

Features of a graphics package n Scale Graphic – This means changing the graphic image by altering its height and/or its width n Rotate Graphic – You can turn your image around to view it at another angle

Features of a graphics package n Scanning a Graphic – This involves using a scanner. – The scanner previews the document first. – The user can choose the area to be scanned – The scan is then saved using a graphic format such as JPEG n Editing a Graphic – Once the document has been saved as a graphics file the user can change the graphic in any way they want.

Features of a graphics package n Crop Graphic – To crop a graphic means to reduce its size by cutting parts from the edges of the graphic. – A graphic may be cropped to remove an unwanted part of it or to reduce the file size.

Types of graphic packages n Graphics packages can be classified into two different types – PAINT (Bit Mapped) – DRAW (Vector) n Both types of package are used to make pictures, but they work differently.

Types of graphic packages n Paint packages produce pictures by changing the colour of the pixels that make up the screen display. n Draw packages work by producing objects on the screen.
