THE MEANING OF DISTANCE LEARNING  Is defined as the process of transferring knowledge to learners (students) who are separated from the instructor (teacher) by time and/or physical distance and are making use of technology components, such as the Internet, video, discussion forums, CD's, tapes and other forms of technology to accomplish learning.

THE MEANING OF DISTANCE LEARNING

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTES OF DISTANCE LEARNING  Like any kind of educational program, distance learning comes with a host of pros and cons. Before you enroll in any kind of distance learning program, make sure to carefully consider these in order to be sure you’ll be getting an education that meets your personal needs, strengths and career goals.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTES OF DISTANCE LEARNING ADVANTAGES  Lots of flexibility.  No commuting  Numerous choices for schools.  Lowered costs.  Learn while working  24X7 Access to Study Material & fellow Students.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTES OF DISTANCE LEARNING DISADVANTAGES  Lack of social interaction.  Some employers don’t accept online degrees  Not all courses required to complete the degree may be offered online.  Requires adaptability to new technologies.  Format isn’t ideal for all learners

POSSIBLE TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN SUPPORT DISTANCE LEARNING.  3G –Is a third generation of mobile telecommunication technology. This is based on set of standards used for mobile devices and mobile telecommunication use services and networks that comply with the international mobile telecommunication.3G application are in wide range of use in wireless voice, telephony, mobile internet access, fixed wireless internet access, Video calls and mobile TV.

POSSIBLE TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN SUPPORT DISTANCE LEARNING.  4G-Fourth generation, is the fourth generation of mobile telecommunications technology succeeding 3G.A 4G system in addition to the usual voice and and other services of 3G, provide mobile ultra-broadband internet access. Both 3G and 4G technology support distance learning by providing a mechanism of communicating between two different parties.

POSSIBLE TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN SUPPORT DISTANCE LEARNING  4G is much better as compared to its all the past technologies(1G,2Gand 3G).Though it is not currently available worldwide, it is available in many areas and its equipment are still expensive. All of this technology support distance learning and it has great impact in facilitating the whole process by making it fast, reliably and more efficiently

POSSIBLE TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN SUPPORT DISTANCE LEARNING  Other technology that can support DL(distance learning) are Cisco IOS (internetworking) a software used on most cisco systems routers and current cisco network switches. LAN(local area network) and WLAN both technologies support DL

SOFTWARES THAT SUPPORT DISTANCE LEARNING  TANGO Interactive™ is a real-time collaboration system  Real-time delivery of training over the public Internet  Provides mechanisms to capture store, index, and publish records of the interactive classes for later asynchronous use  WebWisdom2000™ is a Web document management system with an XML-based application server  Allows editing and reusing of previously prepared material

SOFTWARES THAT SUPPORT DISTANCE LEARNING  Blackboard.  Comprehensive end-to-end e-Learning platform.  Ease of use - design, interface, and management  In use at 3,300 colleges, universities, and corporations  Leading education publishers provide content links  Scalability enables PeopleSoft and e-Directory integration

SOFTWARES THAT SUPPORT DISTANCE LEARNING  Other software's that can support distance learning are;  Cisco Collaboration Server™ Enterprise,  Streaming Media  TopClass  Videoconferencing  Prometheus

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK TO SUPPORT DISTANCE LEARNING

On our framework above we have the LAN network, internet, ISP(internet service provider) and the other users. LAN members can access the server direct within the LAN Other members out side the LAN can access the same server via the ISP,where by the ISP provides connection between the LAN’s

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK TO SUPPORT DISTANCE LEARNING The connection between the user and the other user with the distance learning is maded by the Server that contains some features that made it easy to interact. By the whole process explained hence connection between these users maded
