 Make sure you can answer the following ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS for discussion › What are the responsibilities of a citizen? (make sure you can explain them) › What is the purpose of laws?

 To keep people safe  To protect the rights of people  To describe how people should behave

 Citizens pay money for goods and services › Public schools › Public roads › Police stations › Fire stations › Military › Parks › Public libraries › Court house

 Everyone has the right to a trial by a jury of their peers. Citizens can be called to determine if a defendant is innocent or guilty.

 All men must register for the armed service at the age of 18.

 Write a list of classroom rules you think are important for a classroom. What is the purpose of those rules.

 Read Chapter 24 in SS Workbook. This chapter starts on page 110
