 Design and Build a Remote Control Lawn Mower

1. Turn a push lawn mower into a remote control lawn mower 2. Power 3. Direction 4. Speed 5. Safety shut-off

Swivel wheels Battery Powered Rear Wheels

Lawn Mower engine (GAS) 12 Volt Battery, drives circuitry and motors

Skid steer maneuvering, through turning the wheels in opposite direction causing the lawn mower to swing in either direction (left or right) without going any distance.

PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) ~ A way of providing intermediate amounts of electrical power between fully on and fully off, done by changing the duty cycle of the pulse.

The lawn mower engine will shut off when the receiver loses signal. Remote control shut-off switch Manual switch

May 12, 2010Decided to design a remote control lawn mower. June 4, 2010Met and decided on the design specifications and goals of this project. June 20, 2010Worked on how to implement our goals. Gathered ideas on what design procedure to use. July 20, 2010Bought a used push lawn mower. July 28, 2010 Decided to use parts from an old powered wheels hummer Took the lawn mowers handle and rear wheels off. August 15, 2010 Installed a switch to turn the engine off because the handle was removed and there was no way of turning the lawn mower off

August 25, 2010 Installed the battery powered rear wheels on the lawn mower. Installed the battery holder. August 25, 2010 Installed the battery powered rear wheels on the lawn mower. Installed the battery holder. September 10, 2010 Bought the remote control and receiver. September 20, 2010 Tested the output of the receiver and decided to use a microcontroller to interface the receiver and H-Bridge. October 27-29,2010 Written and Oral proposal December 12, 2010 Progress Report

The overall expected budget for the Remote Driven Lawn Mower project is roughly $ This includes all materials: lawnmower, wireless controls, drive mechanism, and miscellaneous items. For further information, refer to the budget table presented above.
