Outline  Discuss ways in which the use of media and mobile technologies can contribute to teaching and learning outdoors, and help capture learning that has taken place outside the classroom.  Investigate ways of using map tools to enhance teaching and learning in geography  Discuss the use of simulations for making sense of complex situations in geography.  Consider how findings can be represented through infographics, graphs and charts.  Apply some of these techniques to the development of a geography resource on an environmental theme providing challenge in terms of geography and ICT.

ICT in Geography Think about how technology can help develop understanding of these aspects of the National Primary Curriculum:  Comparing the physical and human characteristics of places  Understanding key aspects of physical and human geographical features  Analysis and communication of fieldwork data using digital technologies  Interpretation of sources of geographical information and maps, including digital mapping  Communication of geographical information using a range of methods curriculum-in-england-primary-curriculum

Relevant Teachers Standards  Set goals that stretch and challenge pupils  Have a secure knowledge of the relevant subjects and curriculum areas  Foster and maintain pupils’ interest in the subject  Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn

Project 1: Design a project for a Key Stage 1 class on people and places using one of the resources you have seen today.  KS1 Attainment Target: Place knowledge  Understand geographical similarities and differences through studying the human and physical geography of a small area of the United Kingdom, and of a small area in a contrasting non-European country

My World 3 (Start Menu/ Programs/General) World Wonders Project nders/ SmartNotebook Purple Mash

Project 2: Plan a short unit of work around a simulation tool on an environmental theme for pupils in Key Stage 2.  KS2 Attainment Target: Human and physical geography  Describe and understand key aspects of: physical geography, including: climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes, and the water cycle human geography, including: types of settlement and land use, economic activity including trade links, and the distribution of natural resources including energy, food, minerals and water.

Project 4 Explore a variety of iPad apps to build location knowledge for a group of children with SEN and think about which needs they might address. KS1 Location knowledge  Name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding seas Transfer media from iPad via .

Recce Phoster Photocard

Project 5 Produce a stand-alone resource for a year 4 outdoor educational visit to a local area of geographical interest. KS2 Geographical skills and fieldwork  Use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate countries and describe features studied.
