2 Contributors to Society Media Awareness be aware of, and use, information available to us through all sorts of media; become aware of the potential impact of media in influencing our personal views, choices and decisions; (Media Awareness) P.4

3 Communication Across the Curriculum The modes of communication include talking and listening, reading and writing. However, effective communication also includes non- verbal modes of communication, wider literacy and the use of multimedia and ICT technologies which may combine different modes. Children are therefore encouraged to become effective communicators by using a range of techniques, forms and media to convey information and ideas creatively and appropriately. P.5

4 Using ICT across the Curriculum Across the curriculum at a level appropriate to their ability pupils should develop their ICT skills to: Explore Pupils should be enabled to: access and manage data and information; research, select, process and interpret information; investigate, make predictions and solve problems through interaction with digital tools; understand how to keep safe and display acceptable online behaviour.

5 Using ICT across the Curriculum Express Pupils should be enabled to: create, develop, present and publish ideas and information using a range of digital media; create information and multimedia products using a range of assets.

6 Using ICT across the Curriculum Exchange Pupils should be enabled to: communicate using a range of contemporary methods and tools; share, collaborate, exchange and develop ideas digitally.

7 Using ICT across the Curriculum Evaluate Pupils should be enabled to: talk about, review and make improvements to work, reflecting on the process and outcome; consider the sources and resources used.

8 Using ICT across the Curriculum Exhibit Pupils should be enabled to: manage and present their stored work; showcase their learning across the curriculum. P.7

9 THINKING SKILLS AND PERSONAL CAPABILITIES THINKING, PROBLEM-SOLVING AND DECISION-MAKING, such as: making connections between learning in different contexts.

10 THINKING SKILLS AND PERSONAL CAPABILITIES MANAGING INFORMATION, such as: using own and others’ ideas to locate sources of information; using a range of methods for collating, recording and representing information; communicating with a sense of audience and purpose.

11 The World Around Us At Key Stages 1 and 2, The World Around Us is presented as four inter-related strands that connect learning across geography, history and science and technology. When planning topics, teachers should ensure that opportunities are provided for children to develop their skills in Communication, Using Mathematics, Using ICT and their Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities. At all stages children should be encouraged to become active participants in the learning process. Teachers should involve children in the choice of topics that interest them and, where possible, learning should be connected to current events in the world around them. Teachers should ensure that, where appropriate, aspects of the other Areas of Learning should be integrated.
