MEDICAL, FITNESS, EAP SERVICES AVAILABLE FOR SUMMER INTERNS Edward A. Connell Chief, Medical and Environmental Management Division Code 250 1

1.As summer interns at Goddard Space Flight Center, some medical/health/fitness services are available for your use. Building 97, known as the “Health Unit”, houses the Goddard Medical Clinic as well as the Fitness Center. 2.Due to regulations regarding funding of Federal facilities, the Clinic can offer definitive treatment to only Federal employees, however the Clinic is available to all GSFC personnel, (contract workers, interns, visitors etc.) for needed emergency evaluation, first aid and stabilization. This means interns can go to the Clinic for any injury or illness that you feel requires immediate medical attention. In an emergency, call 911 from any GSFC phone or from a cell phone. 3.Medical services are intended to provide immediate and effective medical care for GSFC employees, contractor personnel, interns, and visitors in order to save lives, relieve suffering, stabilize, and minimize disability. 4.If follow-up medical services are desired/required, the Clinic staff will refer students to nearby medical facilities which operate on a fee-for-service basis. 5. Written consent of parent(s) or legal guardian will be obtained prior to treatment of minors. 6. A Health Care Statement of Responsibility Agreement must be signed. 7. You are eligible to participate in health education seminars and lectures, fee for service screening procedures, and use of the Mayo Clinic website, (a very informative and interactive health service). 8.The staff in the Clinic will do what they can to assure you have a safe, healthy and enjoyable experience at Goddard. Monthly Membership available at The Goddard Fitness Center for $20 a month Showers/Locker Rooms only: $5/Month (check only) Offering: a. A fully certified Fitness Staff and exercise equipment such as treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bicycles, stair climbers, strength training machines, and free weights. b. Yoga, Pilates, Kick Boxing, Zumba, and Muscle Sculpting classes. c. Promotional offer of one week free for joining. The Fitness staff will provide exercise instruction and keep you motivated while you work to improve your health and fitness. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) 1.EAP services are convenient and confidential. The EAP counselors are available to assist employees and managers with workplace issues such as emotional issues, morale problems, change, conflict within the work group, substance abuse, legal, financial, and workplace violence. They offer one on one counseling and consulting sessions, as well as group intervention when requested. 2.Two complementary EAP sessions are available to Summer Interns 3.The EAP Counselor is located in the Health Unit in Building 97.
