Review of the Program: Mission Statement The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The Learner Profile

How is the DP different from other pre-university academic programs? DP is a comprehensive and balanced 2-year curriculum and assessment system Assessments (internal and external) are done throughout the 2 year program Requires students to study six subjects and core components across all disciplines Students explore the connections between the six subjects and from an international perspective Students will… Reflect Pursue one subject in great detail through independent research Apply knowledge and skills through community outreach

For these reasons the IB Diploma is recognized by colleges and universities around the world as a superior education, preparing students to succeed at post-secondary institutions

Theory of Knowledge Two year course, 100 hours Centered around discussions of the eight ways of knowing: sense perception, language, reason, emotion, intuition, faith, memory, imagination Not about new knowledge acquisition, but rather the consideration of knowledge issues Core of the program

TOK Core of the program How do we know what we know? How is knowledge produced? What is the difference between belief and knowledge? How do the eight ways of knowing work together? What degree of certainty or obstacles to certainty do we have in a given subject? How can we overcome some of this uncertainty to declare knowledge?

Rigor & Workload IB curriculum is trans-disciplinary, higher order thinking, open-ended-- content AND concept Tests/projects/major assessments monitored through Google Calendar Quizzes not monitored, nor SOL benchmark tests, multi-level classes could encounter difficulties
