Children and Youth Development Project (CYDP) ‘INVESTING IN SKILLS FOR FUTURE ENTREPRENEURS’

Introduction to CYDP Beneficiary: Children and Youth aged 12-24yrs, through group formations Implementing Ministry: MOA (4S Unit) Partners: FAO, WFP, UNICEF, UNFPA, MOET, SNYC Project Cycle: 12 months Location of projects: In all 4 regions of SD Number of groups: 50 (with members) Number of beneficiaries: about 2,000 (60% males and 40% females)

CYDP OBJECTIVE To improve the livelihoods of children and youth through engagement in agricultural initiatives with opportunities for long-term food security, while minimizing their vulnerability and improving their coping strategies. INVESTING ON SKILLS FOR FUTURE ENTREPRENEURS

Background to CYDP The CYDP joint programme is built upon the success of the JFFLS and 4S programmes Learning programme linked into the agricultural crop cycle; – links are established between agriculture, nutrition, gender equality and life-skills knowledge – so that young participants learn to grow healthy crops or raise livestock while making informed decisions for leading healthy lives.

Background to CYDP CYDP provides modern and traditional agricultural skills and life skills Emphases is placed in capacitating the participants on ASRH and HIV and AIDS Support is rendered by 4 community facilitators – Volunteers – Mainly teachers, community elders, nurses Training guided by a Training Manual Emphasis is on using local structures and networks for training, mentoring purposes

CYDP Activities BROILER PRODUCTION 33 groups engaged so far in broiler production since July 2011 Rearing 200 broilers/group SADP Support: DOC, Feeds, Medication and Equipment

CYDP Activities VEGETABLE PRODUCTION 27 groups engaged in vegetable farming 14 groups are school based 13 are community based and measure 30m x 30m
