Looked at several options but best fit seems to be Wiener MPOD system with a few new features implemented for us. (These will be catalog items in future, expect other applications.) This is a generic picture. We will have rear modules (rear cable connection), and the modules shown here are not the ones we use, apart from the controller in slot 1 (“MPOD controller”)
Typical rear-module MPOD crate configuration. This one is all HV of course, whereas for iTOP we’ll have all LV, but it is basically similar. This one is at FRIB. Front panel has just an on-off switch and indicator. Front panel off overrides software control.
Crate serves two groups, each group is eight boardstacks (eight cables) Cable ends have to break out into two connectors each: 21W4 type D connector for the 2 high current loads ring terminals or TBD connector adapting to DB37 connectors for low current loads MPV4008I 4 channel 20A module w/ two 21W4 D connectors (new product) MPV8008I 8 channel 10A module w/ two DB37 connectors, with connector adapter PCB installed MPOD controller only 3 of 16 load cables shown ethernet
To be designed Connector board for front panel of MPV8008I Cable connector possibilities need investigation. We might consider simply screw terminals for this. Once installed, the cables are permanent and no need for separation or re-arrangement. It may be ok. Else, perhaps a D connector. We could inquire if Wiener might offer it as a catalog accessory (and so take care of this for us). Probably not cheaper than we can do in house though. Patch board to connect cable to SCROD cable Connectors TBD. Screw terminals? Field installation may be a good idea, it would allow for the cables to be run in exactly to length. Slack in trays will be wasting power and heating up the hall for the lifetime of the experiment… Capacitors needed on this board for regulation/stability. Probably ~1 mF. Sense lines connected through resistors or polyfuses. Positronic connector for SCROD cable
