Online/Hybrid Course Research for Franklin Pierce College Rindge Campus Matt Cormier Elizabeth Cozzolina Jen Gudzinowicz Greg Gosselin Matthew Herman Angie Norton

INTRODUCTION The purpose of our research was to determine whether or not faculty members at Franklin Pierce College, Rindge Campus are currently using an online educational portal. If they are using educational portals what factors appealed to them about that portal. If they were not, then what factors would motivate faculty members to engage in distance learning. Research was also needed to determine what faculty member’s attitudes are toward the idea of a percentage of online classes being integrated into the educational system.

PROBLEM STATEMENT Research is necessary to determine if faculty members are currently using an online educational portal to support their course work. Additional research is needed to determine why some faculty members are not using an online educational portal and what human resource development interventions might be helpful for them in adopting.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES 1)Determine what educational portals are being used by faculty members. 2) Determine why some faculty members are not using an educational portal and/or online teaching technologies. 3) Determine what Human Resource Development Interventions would be helpful for faculty members in adopting online teaching technologies.

THE SURVEY 1.Are you currently using an online portal to teach a class or classes? 2.If you are currently using an online portal, which one do you use most frequently? 3.Which human resource development interventions, if any, would encourage you to use a web-based delivery format? 4.Do you feel as though you would have enough time to prepare a web- based course? 5.What percentage of your program curriculum do you think would be appropriate for web-based education? 6.Do you feel training would be helpful with respect to using web- based technologies? 7.What is your biggest concern, if any, regarding teaching course(s) online? 8.My teaching appointment is:

METHODOLOGY There is a total of 111 faculty members at the Franklin Pierce College Rindge Campus We surveyed 64 faculty members both full and part time using a non-probability sampling method and a convenience method Out of the 64 faculty members surveyed 48 were full- time and 16 were part-time

LIMITATIONS Money Time Lack of knowledge with SPSS software and its functions Respondents willingness to participate Limited number of faculty members and their conflicting schedules

Recommendations  Provide training for faculty members willing to conduct and online course  Lighten the course load for faculty members willing to conduct a full class (75% or greater) online, providing them more time to prepare the course work for their hybrid class  Provide faculty members who conduct a full class (75% or greater) online a financial stipend for the extra time and effort spent  Conduct an on-campus forum for students and faculty members to voice their recommendations and concerns for the birth of hybrid courses at Franklin Pierce College, Rindge Campus

Conclusion Online/hybrid courses would be successful at Franklin Pierce College with the right kind of aid to the faculty. We recommend the FPC Faculty members, Staff, and Administration at the Rindge Campus take an active role to facilitate the birth of Online/hybrid courses at the Franklin Pierce College Rindge Campus.
