Presentation transcript:

Tourism started around the late 1800’s. People were amazed by the beautiful scenery of the rocky mountains. The province developed substantially during the 1900’s with the development of other cities and roads.

In British Columbia, the question is not “what can we do?”; the question is, “how are we going to find the time to do it all?”. It all depends on what you want to see in B.C. because if you like parks and nature, we’ve got it and if you like buildings and statues, we’ve got it. Anything you want to do, anything you want to see, we’ve got it in B.C.

Tourism and Recreation in British Colombia has taken a great toll on the environment. Many years ago, when there were not as many tourist attractions, British Colombia’s environmental impact was much lower than it is today. Having more people here means there are a lot of people using motor transport which will create a lot of carbon dioxide emissions which will contribute to global warming.

The economic value of British Columbia’s tourism and recreation brings in millions of thousands of dollars to the province. The tourism business of 1997 brought in $4 billion and would continue to rise by an average of $100-$500 dollars all the way until 2008 which was $7 billion.
