Pupils will be questioned on all areas of mathematics covered in school. These are: Number Calculating Place value Reasoning Shape and space Measures Data handling Using and applying (problem solving)

How can you help? Be enthusiastic mathematicians yourselves! Encourage your child to explain their methods and their thinking. If you feel your child is not clear on an area, let us know so that we can reinforce methods taught in school. Visit revision websites and play maths games with your child. Praise their efforts!

Key Stage 2 English Assessment 2014

How many papers? Punctuation, Grammar and Vocabulary Test (45 minutes) Spelling – 15 minutes (approx) Reading – 1 hour (reading and to answer questions)

The Grammar test has replaced the previous writing tasks set during SATs week. Children’s writing level will be based on teacher assessment and these levels will be reported based on the assessments from the whole year.

Knowledge and skills that are tested. Understanding of different punctuation Types of sentences and sentence structure Word classes- noun, verbs, adjectives, adverbs etc. Understanding of vocabulary Tenses Singular and plural forms

Spelling Test Takes form of dictation. The children write in ‘correctly’ the missing word. There are 20 words to fill in. The spellings will be based on key spelling patterns taught across KS1 and KS2.

How to support your child at home – Writing Encourage neat joined handwriting. Help them check to see if their work is grammatically correct and that punctuation is accurate. Talk about word classes and use of punctuation when the child is reading. Encourage improving word choices to expand use of vocabulary.

How to support your child at home – Spelling Help children learn their spellings each week. These may be past SAT words. Majority of the words set are taken from the KS2 spelling bank for Year 5 and 6.

How to support your child at home – Reading Talk with children about the books they are reading. Discuss characters, information, events and ideas. Encourage them to think about the language used and why it has been used.
