From that day to this, Jewish people have celebrated the festival of Hanukkah. It is a Festival of lights because of the miracle of the oil lamps and it lasts for eight days because the oil lamps in the temple continued to burn for eight days. We believe that, after the dark days when our ancestors were being bullied by the Greeks, the victory of the Maccabee Jews brought light back into our lives.
