1. Hanukka h The Jewish Festival of Lights.

2. Do you remember King James? He was very bossy.

3. This is King Antiochus. He was very unkind.

4. The King told Jewish people that they could not worship their God. You must worship my God.

5. The King had lots of people who agreed with him.

6. He told his followers to burn down all the synagogues.

7. King Antiochus’ followers did as they were told. Until only the synagogue in Jerusalem was left.

8. A brave Jew called Judah Maccabee decided to stop the King and his followers.

9. Judah had 4 brothers and they all worked together to beat King Antiochus.

10. Judah and his followers went to the synagogue in Jerusalem to light the eternal light. But when they got there they only found enough oil for 1 day.

11. They lit the light then went to get more oil. When they returned 8 days later the light was still burning. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

12. Every year Jews remember the story of Judah Maccabee when they celebrate Hanukkah. Jews light the candles on a menorah to remember how the oil burned for 8 days.
