Learn French Lesson One Presentation

Introduction to our lessons To make the most out of our resources, you will need to know how they are set out and how to use them properly. Lesson Objectives are important since they help you know what you must learn from the lesson, don’t ignore these. Then, the main lesson will begin. Learning vocabulary or learning grammar are the main two points of learning the language, so our lessons will be mainly based on these. After you are sure you have learnt what you need to, you can complete the worksheet (on the website) Once you are sure you have learnt it and correctly filled in the worksheet, you should move on to the next lesson.

Lesson Objectives To Know how to greet people in French To be able to say how old you are and where you come from To be able to have a short conversation in French.

Key words and phrases Bonjour - Hello

Key words and phrases comment allez-vous? – How are you ? This is the formal way of saying ‘How are you?’

Key words and phrases Au revoir! – Good-bye!

Key words and phrases J’ai… ans – I am… years old Notice how they say ‘J’ai’. The translation for this is ‘I have’; but we would say ‘I am... Years old’. Make sure you remember this because, even though they would understand you if you said ‘I am... Years old’, it would sound very funny to them. Just like ‘I have... Years’ sounds funny to us.

Key words and phrases quel âge êtes-vous? – How old are you? This is one of the formal ways of saying ‘How old are you?’

Key words and phrases quel âge as-tu? – How old are you? This is the informal ways of saying ‘How old are you?’

Key words and phrases Où habitez-vous ? – Where do you live? This is the formal way of saying ‘Where do you live?’

Key words and phrases Où habites-tu ? – Where do you live? This is the informal way of saying ‘Where do you live?’

Conversation This is the part of the lesson where you will see the vocab we have learned in action, so make sure you pay close attention!!

Conversation Manuel – Bonjour! Miguel – Bonjour! Comment allez-vous? Manuel – Bien, merci! Es-tu? Miguel – Je suis bien. Où habitez-vous maintenant? Manuel – J'habite à paris, et-tu? Où habites-tu? Miguel – J’habite à marseille. C’est bien, très bien. Manuel - Quand même, quel âge as-tu? J’ai trente ans. Miguel – Moi? J’ai trente-et-un ans. Au revoir, mon ami! Manuel – Au revoir!

Well Done! If you’ve learned this correctly, you have now learned 11 words/phrases! Now that’s good going! Well done! To put what you’ve learned to practise, you should now complete the worksheet which will be found on the website. Enjoy ;)
