May 29th, 1953 Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay are the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest

Where is Mount Everest? It is located on the border between Nepal and Tibet The mountain is part of the Himalaya Range in Asia

How high is Mount Everest? 8,848 metres

Edmund Hillary He was born in Auckland, New Zealand on 20th of July 1919, so he was 33 when he climbed Everest.

New Zealand is an island country in the south-western Pacific Ocean

At the top of the world They reached the summit at 11:30 am Hillary took Tenzing’s photo, but Tenzing didn’t know how to use a camera, so there is no photo of Hillary in the summit

After Everest Hillary also went to the Antarctica (South Pole) in 1958, and later, to the North Pole He died in 2008, at the age of 88
