For example, arsenic contamination worldwide affects an estimated 160 million people (WHO, 2008). In Bangladesh, approximately 30 – 40 million people are exposed to arsenic contamination, with an expected 2.5 million people developing some form of arsenicosis symptom in their lifetime and over 320,000 people dying from arsenic induced cancer over the next 50 years (World Bank, 2005).
