Describe rusting. List three methods of rust prevention. Demonstrate that oxygen and water are necessary for rusting.

Rusting is a chemical process that changes iron into iron oxide. Rusting can be prevented by: Painting Oiling Galvanising (coating in zinc)

3 Demonstrate that Oxygen and Water are Necessary for Rusting
Set up three test tubes with iron nails. Add water to one test tube. Add boiled, cooled water and a layer of oil to another test tube. Add cotton wool and some calcium chloride to the third test tube. Leave the nails for a week. Only the nails in the test tube with water rusted.
