Introduction to Toasted Head

Presentation Overview  History  Vineyards  Wines

History  Toasted Head was established in 1995 in Esparto by the Giguiere family  It is named after practice of ‘bousinage’ or toasting of barrel heads and staves  The fire-breathing bear logo was derived from a painting by Robert Shetterly which itself was based on the poem “Speaking Fire at Stones” by William Carpenter  Still maintains a boutique-style winery even with large case volume

Dunnigan Hills  Located on the east side of the Vaca Mountains  Warm days are cooled by afternoon breezes from the Sacramento Delta and San Francisco Bay  Toasted Head has 1700 acres in this pristine farming region of California

The Winemaking Team Barry Bergman, Head Winemaker/General Manager, began his career at Toasted Head and is now in his 20 th year Blake Kuhn, Senior White Winemaker, joined Toasted Head in 2000 and enjoys making wine in the Dunnigan Hills because he says, “We get the opportunity to generate our own discoveries.” Owen Smith, Senior Red Winemaker, joined Toasted Head in 1999 and has enjoyed the challenge of expanding Toasted Head’s red wine program

Core Tier  The Chardonnay has bold tropical flavors of peach, banana, pineapple which burst on the nose and palate with an abundance of toasty, spicy oak  The Viognier displays fresh, fragrant aromas of stone fruits, mango, nectarine, and honeysuckle  The Cabernet Sauvignon has flavors of cherry and cassis with firm supply tannins and toasty oak  The Merlot has flavors of plum, cherry, blackberry, fresh herb, vanilla, coffee and toasted oak  The Shiraz includes raspberry, blueberry, cocoa and cedar

Barrel Reserve Tier  The Barrel Reserve series showcases the best appellations in Sonoma County  The Chardonnay comes from the Russian River Valley. It has a delicate style with rich fruit, balanced acidity and minerality characteristic of the Russian River Valley  The Pinot Noir has bright red cherry and floral characters that make this wine fragrant and silky  The Cabernet Sauvignon has a big style with well-integrated tannins

Summary  The name come from ‘toasting the heads’ of barrels  Unique, boutique style winery in Dunnigan Hills  Predominantly estate grown fruit in core wines and carefully selected fruit from premiere Sonoma Vineyards in Barrel Reserves.  Toasted Head is loved by consumers and is thriving
