Science Fair Projects Must Be EXPERIMENTS! An experiment is a test to find out something. Experiments are repeated 3 times.

Beware Do not make a volcano or the Solar System. These are display projects and do not answer a scientific question! X X

Scoring Judges will not score projects that do not follow the scientific method.

Steps to the Scientific Method Question / Problem Hypothesis Materials Variables (4 th and 5 th ) Procedure Data / Results Conclusion

Question / Problem What do I want to find out? What do I want to learn? ?

Hypothesis Based on what I already know, what do I think will happen? This is also called a prediction.

Materials This is what you will use to conduct your experiment.

Variables The variable is the one factor I wish to change (or use in different amounts). Everything is given the exact same conditions except for one factor. This factor is my variable. I need to explain things I did to make it a controlled experiment. Variable are things that have an effect on the experiment.

Procedure These are the steps that I follow to do my experiment. The steps have to be numbered.

Data / Results Results -This is what actually happened during this experiment. Data -This is where I show the data in the form of a graph or chart.

Conclusion What did I learn? Was my prediction correct or should it be rejected? If I did this experiment again what would I do differently?
